Job description

Employees perform responsible work on board U.S. Coast Guard certified vessels, including safety assessments, loading and unloading passengers and vehicles, maintaining equipment, and enforcing safety regulations.

The role is based at Cherry Branch Ferry Operations and involves shift work — 7 days on, 7 days off.

Applicants must present a valid TWIC and USCG Merchant Mariners Credential with a current medical card during the interview.

Required qualifications include:

  1. Knowledge of basic seamanship and shipboard terms.
  2. Knowledge of firefighting principles and proper hose handling.
  3. Experience with launching and operating rescue boats and recovering unconscious persons.
  4. Experience in personal survival techniques and safety.
  5. Ability to demonstrate proper fire extinguisher use.

Applicants may qualify through education, experience, or a combination of both, as detailed at oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide.

Must possess a valid Ordinary Seaman Certificate issued by the US Coast Guard and a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
