Job summary

IFF in Palo Alto, California, seeks a Process Research and Development Technician to support small-scale fermentation activities using standardized testing procedures and established laboratory equipment. You will perform routine testing, record results and help maintain safe, reliable laboratory operations in a collaborative, solution-focused team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in a scientific, engineering or technical field preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal procedures accurately, with support available.
• Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn lab/process-control systems.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and wear lab PPE as required.
• Availability to work the day shift: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Monitor microbial fermentations in small-scale laboratory vessels.
• Operate and maintain fermentation bioreactors following procedures.
• Prepare media and routine laboratory setup to support operations.
• Perform tank cleaning, maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
• Monitor process for contamination and document observations.
• Carry out routine tests with laboratory equipment and defined methods.
• Perform calculations using standard formulas, graphs and tables.
• Collect samples and conduct analytical processing as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement focused on safety, quality and efficiency.
