Job summary

Microbial Discovery Group in Franklin (WI) is seeking a Process Engineer to support daily manufacturing operations across fermentation, drying, milling and blending. You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Engineering and Maintenance to troubleshoot issues, improve yields, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

The role emphasizes process scale-up, technology transfer, and ensuring compliance with GMP, food safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or related field.
• 3–5 years+ experience in chemical processing, biotechnology, fermentation or related engineering environments.
• Hands-on experience with bioreactors, centrifuges, freeze dryers, spray dryers, or similar equipment.
• Working knowledge of batch, fed-batch and continuous fermentation.
• Experience supporting process scale-up, technology transfer or process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day process engineering support for fermentation, freeze-drying, spray-drying, milling and blending operations.
• Analyze process data to establish operating baselines, identify sources of variation, troubleshoot losses and recommend improvements.
• Develop, update and maintain process specifications, SOPs, work instructions, engineering standards and batch-support documentation.
• Lead or support investigations into process deviations, equipment failures, and performance gaps with cross-functional partners.
• Support process scale-up, technology transfer and capital projects from design through start-up.
• Ensure GMP, HACCP, food safety, quality and safety requirements, including change-control and validation practices.
