Job summary

International Flavors and Fragrances (IFF) seeks a laboratory-scale fermentation specialist in Wilmington, DE. This on-site role supports R&D and manufacturing through hands-on fermentation work, culture prep, data collection, and process optimization.

You will operate bioreactors, follow SOPs and safety standards, and collaborate with diverse teams across shifts to drive scalable biotechnology solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or related physical science.
• Alternatively, an Associate degree with relevant laboratory/manufacturing/biotech experience.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams across projects and priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication for shift-to-shift information transfer.
• Experience following documented procedures and maintaining accurate lab records.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work with PPE.
• Willingness to work multiple or rotating shifts including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory-scale fermentation experiments using microorganisms and bioreactor systems.
• Prepare seed cultures, media, reagents, and materials for fermentation studies.
• Operate and monitor fermentation equipment, including SCADA systems.
• Collect, process, and analyze fermentation samples per SOPs.
• Maintain accurate experimental records and data.
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain bioreactors and lab equipment.
• Follow SOPs, safety requirements, and quality guidelines.
• Identify issues and assist with troubleshooting and improvements.
• Collaborate across multiple projects and shift teams.
