Qualifications

• 3+ years of demonstrated commitment to public defense with felony experience in NYS or other jurisdictions (minimum 2 years in felony matters)
• Proven litigation experience in pretrial suppression hearings and jury trials
• Track record of guiding casework and building relationships to achieve goals
• Strong oral and written advocacy and ability to meet multiple deadlines

Responsibilities

• Provide client-centered representation from arraignments through trial, disposition or dismissal
• Represent clients at arraignments, interview clients and coordinate with family and others for bail advocacy
• Prepare cases for advocacy, including gathering information and researching law for effective representation
• Conduct bail review hearings and post-arraignment proceedings
• Coordinate with specialty units (DNA, Digital Forensics, Decarceration, Immigration) to support advocacy
• Review discovery and prepare for litigation; conduct pretrial hearings and trials
• Prepare mitigation materials for diversion or sentencing advocacy
• Advise clients and manage collateral consequences of pleas
• File notices of appeal and coordinate with appellate counsel
• Collaborate with supervising attorneys and other defense professionals
