Job summary

The Legal Aid Society, the nation’s oldest and largest social justice legal services organization, offers Summer 2027 Legal Internships with the Criminal Defense Practice (CDP) across NYC. Interns will work in trial offices and may engage with specialized units such as CAB and DVSJA/CAB.

Responsibilities include drafting motions, legal research, investigations, client interviews, and discovery review. 2Ls in good standing are required; 1Ls may apply for 1L positions when listed.

Qualifications

• Current law school student in good standing (2Ls).
• Relevant clinical program or work experience is preferred, but not required.
• Demonstrated commitment to indigent defense and serving oppressed communities.

Responsibilities

• Draft motions and conduct legal research.
• Assist with investigations and client interviews.
• Review and organize discovery; assist with other duties as assigned.
• Observe appellate arguments and SORA hearings.
• Work directly with supervising attorneys.
