Job summary

Steampunk is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer focused on federated learning to develop distributed ML workflows, fine-tune models, and ensure training stays within defined security constraints.

You will collaborate with data scientists, software and cloud engineers, and cybersecurity teams to build robust ML pipelines, evaluate performance, and deploy models in controlled environments. A government clearance-friendly background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data science, machine learning, AI engineering, or related disciplines.
• Hands-on experience developing, training, fine-tuning, and evaluating machine learning models.
• Experience with federated learning, distributed machine learning, or distributed model training concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement machine learning solutions supporting the Bounded Use Case B demonstration.
• Develop and execute controlled model adaptation and fine-tuning workflows.
• Design, implement, and support federated learning workflows that enable distributed model training and adaptation.
• Develop and maintain machine learning pipelines supporting data preparation, model training, fine-tuning, evaluation, and deployment.
• Analyze and preprocess data to support ML workflows.
• Configure and optimize ML models and training processes to meet performance requirements.
• Evaluate model performance using established metrics and validation techniques.
• Integrate ML capabilities with applications and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with data scientists, software and cloud engineers, and cybersecurity teams.
