Job summary

Salas O’Brien, Inc. is seeking a Federal Process Engineer in Charlotte, NC to plan, develop, and execute process engineering tasks for federal projects across manufacturing, energy, and tech sectors. You will design process layouts, evaluate existing systems, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and compliant solutions.

The role requires 5–10 years of process engineering experience, a B.S. in Chemical/Process Engineering, and credentials such as PE or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 5-10 years of progressively responsible process engineering experience.
• Experience with federal clients or major defense contractor.
• Credentialing: PE license or equivalent (CCPSC, PMP, CAP, Six Sigma).

Responsibilities

• Evaluate processes across industrial, manufacturing, energy, and related sectors to improve safety and efficiency.
• Develop PFDs, P&IDs, heat and material balances, and process narratives.
• Perform mass, energy, hydraulic calculations and equipment sizing.
• Prepare equipment specs, data sheets, and procurement support documents.
• Support hazard analyses, safety reviews, and regulatory compliance assessments.
• Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines and senior teams.
• Lead field activities, site visits, and startup support.
• Assist with proposal development and project planning.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide project teams.
