Job summary

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Montana is seeking experienced, motivated attorneys to join its Criminal Division. Positions are available in Billings, Helena, and Great Falls, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis under an Open Continuous schedule.

As Assistant United States Attorneys, successful candidates will prosecute federal offenses, work with federal, state, local and tribal partners, and handle hearings, trials, and appeals. JD and admission to a U.S.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction by entry on duty.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Law graduates or current students taking a July 2026 bar exam may be considered subject to requirements.
• Excellent research, writing, and briefing of complex legal issues.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute federal offenses in the Criminal Division.
• Collaborate with federal, state, local, and tribal partners to investigate and prosecute cases.
• Draft motions, responses, and search warrants; brief complex legal issues.
• Appear before grand juries and courts; handle hearings and trials.
• Assume increasing responsibilities as training progresses.
