Job summary

United States Attorney's Office - Eastern District of Texas is seeking a criminal prosecutor (AUSA) to work on investigations and prosecutions involving immigration, drug trafficking, and human trafficking. The position supports multiple offices located in Beaumont, Lufkin, Plano, Sherman, Texarkana, and Tyler, TX.

The role is a term position not-to-exceed March 31, 2028, with possible extension or permanency depending on funding and performance. Applicants must hold a J.D.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction).
• Residency in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof.
• Experience with federal prosecutions is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute a wide variety of federal crimes and oversee investigations and prosecutions in the Eastern District of Texas.
• Advise federal agents on questions of law and Departmental policy; make charging decisions and dispositions.
• Research and draft pleadings; be prepared to try cases in federal court; pursue asset forfeiture related to prosecutions.
• Coordinate litigation assignments for legal support staff.
