Job summary

McAllister & Quinn, LLC, a Washington, D.C.-based federal government relations and research development firm, seeks a Managing Director to lead client engagements in the Research University Practice, designing and implementing federal engagement strategies.

You will guide university leadership, staff, and government relations teams, monitor policy and appropriations, and help secure funding while developing reports, testimonies, and stakeholder outreach. Travel < 20% and hybrid in-office work in DC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; policy-oriented field preferred.
• 6–10+ years of federal legislative experience with direct appropriations experience.
• Strong knowledge of Congress, federal appropriations, and the legislative process.
• Experience with higher education and research policy and issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to summarize complex materials.

Responsibilities

• Lead government relations services and deliverables for research universities.
• Monitor and evaluate policy, legislation, and appropriations actions to shape client strategies.
• Advise clients as a subject matter expert on Capitol Hill and federal agencies.
• Prepare clients for meetings on Capitol Hill and with federal stakeholders.
• Organize client fly-ins and campus visits to engage stakeholders.
• Develop policy reports, briefings, and analyses for priority issues.
• Lead client testimonies and presentations and support business development.
• Oversee execution of appropriations requests strategy.
