Job summary

Apple is seeking a highly skilled mechanical engineer to advance product design through predictive finite element simulation. You will build and run models for critical load cases and work closely with the cross-functional design team to define load cases and mechanical requirements.

You will test, characterize and develop material models, bridging simulation and test with instrumented experiments, and be fully integrated from early stages to help deliver cutting-edge products.

Qualifications

• MS degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in implicit and explicit finite element analysis (FEA).
• Strong knowledge of solid mechanics.
• Attention to detail and verification/validation.
• Desire to work in a fast-paced environment creating cutting-edge products.

Responsibilities

Description

As a core member of the product design team, you will drive the design of ground breaking products using predictive finite element simulation. Build and run product models for important design load cases. Interact closely with the cross functional design team to define new load cases and product level mechanical requirements. Help test, characterize and develop new material models. Close the gaps between simulation and test with highly instrumented tests and rigorous validation. You will be fully integrated with the product design team from the earliest stages to engineer ground breaking products.

Minimum Qualifications

• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Structural Engineering, or similar discipline required along with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in implicit and explicit finite element analysis (FEA).
• Strong knowledge of solid mechanics.
• Attention to details and commitment to verification/validation.
• Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with passion for creating cutting edge products.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Abaqus, ANSA and META.
• Experience with system level modeling and simulation.
• Experience with the mechanical behavior of materials and constitutive modeling.
• Self-motivated to identify areas for improvement and drive innovation.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration and written and verbal communication.
• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Structural Engineering, or similar discipline.
