FAST Labs is a world-class research organization dedicated to fearless innovation, fueling curiosity and tackling 'never been done before' challenges. We define the next generation of technology within BAE Systems' Electronic Systems (ES) sector. The R3 Product Line is seeking a Research Engineer to support and lead programs in Converged Solution (CS) and RF Exploitation Architectures (REXAS) Tech Areas, developing novel RF/cyber algorithms and demonstrating advanced EW capabilities.

The Research Engineer (RE) may serve as a technical lead or subject matter expert, focusing on defining software and systems best practices to enable rapid development and integration of R&D capabilities, facilitating technology transition into higher TRL products.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Principal Investigator or Engineering Lead on higher TRL software-focused R&D programs.
• Collaborate with Program Engineering Manager to define program scope.
• Act as technical interface with Customer, Program Management, and Leadership.
• Understand requirements, use cases, and constraints to define executable scope.
• Provide subject matter expertise to solve multidisciplinary problems.
• Ensure software architecture and implementation meet technical and customer requirements within schedule and budget.
• Establish engineering best practices for R&D programs to enable technology transition.
• Lead change management as R&D programs evolve.
• Mentor junior engineers across disciplines.
• Communicate effectively with teams and leadership.

This role requires full-time onsite work at a BAE Systems facility.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
• Active DoD Top Secret clearance, ability to obtain TS/SCI and SAP clearances.
• At least 10 years of relevant technical experience.
• Experience across Software, Systems, and Hardware disciplines.
• Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge of RF/Digital Signal Processing, EW, Cyber vulnerability research, Tactical space, and Multi-domain operations.
• Experience in business development, systems engineering tools like MagicDraw, and software configuration management.
• Understanding of secure software development and DoD software practices.
