General Function

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Operates cash register accurately, scans products, and ensures store cleanliness, product quality, and supply needs.

Reporting Relations

Reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Fast and Fresh Department Manager; Assistant Fast and Fresh Department Manager

Positions reporting to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, demonstrating caring, concern, and patience.
• Greets customers with a smile and attempts to learn and use their names.
• Assists customers by guiding them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading heavy items, noting suggestions, and enhancing the shopping experience.
• Answers calls promptly and courteously.
• Works as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a positive work environment.
• Operates cash register accurately, handles transactions, and reports cash discrepancies.
• Handles promotional coupons, food stamps, cash, checks, credit card transactions, and provides receipts and change.
• Packages merchandise and assists with inventory, stocking, and receiving deliveries.
• Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of work areas, including restrooms and equipment.
• Follows dress code and personal hygiene standards.
• Follows company policies and reports to work as scheduled.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Orders merchandise and supplies as needed.
• Prices products for customers as required.
• Performs additional duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

• Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
• Ability to perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to file, post, mail, copy data, interview, guide, and direct.

Education and Experience

No formal education or experience required.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
• Vision from less than 20 inches to over 20 feet, with or without correction, including depth and color perception.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions

Exposed to temperature extremes, dampness, equipment hazards, electrical shock, and cleaning chemicals in a fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used

Telephone, fax, copier, pallet jacks, garbage disposal, trash and cardboard compactors, box cutter, knives, computer, calculator, frozen juice machine, coffee maker, cash register, RPM, gas pumps.

Daily contact with customers, co-workers, vendors, and the public.
