Job summary

Academy of Design in the San Francisco Bay Area is seeking a fashion design instructor for kids to teach the basics of fashion design, sewing, mood boards, sketching, fabric selection, and fitting.

The position is in-person, on Saturdays and Friday afternoons in Belmont, CA. Must live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Flexible hours and compensation based on experience, with a focus on inspiring young designers aged 8–13.

Qualifications

• Must know how to sew well (hand or machine).
• Must enjoy working with kids.
• Previous teaching experience is a plus.
• Experience in fashion design or retail is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Understand and engineer a garment from a tech sketch.
• Utilize a library of blocks to build a unique garment.
• Teach basic machine sewing and construction.
• Provide positive support and guidance to help students realize their vision.

About Us: Since 2018 the Academy of Design has been an incubator for the next generation of designers. We believe in inspiring and nurturing the creativity in each child through the process of design. Our program introduces kids ages 8-13 to the basics of fashion design, from mood boards, to sketching, to fabric selection, to sewing and fitting. Key Responsibilities:
