H2ajobs in Iowa seeks a versatile farm laborer to assist with birthing livestock, fencing, feeding, and crop tasks. You will monitor animals, move animals to pasture, and help with silage, manure, and daily farm chores in varied weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare livestock for birthing and assist with birthing as needed.
• Prepare and maintain temporary fencing; ensure fence stability and fix issues.
• Monitor livestock multiple times daily; move animals between pastures.
• Pull babies from struggling mothers and monitor mothers and newborns.
• Prepare hay, salt, mineral blocks; monitor weather-related issues.
• Wean calves and calves from mothers; assist with silage, harvesting, and manure.

Job description

Preparing livestock for birthing, prepare temporary fencing; ensuring existing fence stability and fixing any problem areas; birthing livestock; monitor livestock multiple times daily for any early birthing; pull babies from struggling mothers; monitor mothers and babies multiple times daily; move snow, break ice in watering facilities, ensure hay, salt and mineral blocks availability depending on weather conditions; check all livestock for weather related issues; move livestock to grass pasture in the spring as forage becomes available; remove all temporary fencing; wean babies by separating from mothers; monitor livestock for issues arising from pregnancy; sell weaned young when grass forage availability is depleted. Helping with seeding crops, chopping silage, harvesting crops for feed. Hauling manure on fields and monitoring manure levels in barns.

Housing: Employer-provided (including mobile or range)

Meals: Employer will furnish free and convenient cooking and kitchen facilities, all of which are in working order, including refrigeration, space for food preparation, cooking accessories and utensils, appliances, and dishwashing facilities so that workers may prepare their own meals. Kitchen facilities include adequate sinks with hot and cold water under pressure. Employer will provide transportation once a week to assure workers access to stores where they can purchase groceries, when the employer is providing cooking and kitchen facilities.

Be able to work in extreme conditions such as heat, humidity, wind, cold. Lift and carry supplies. Follow instructions. Once hired, worker may be required to take a random drug test at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. Must be able to obtain appropriate drivers license within 30 days following hire and obtain clean driving record to be able to operate company vehicle. Lift up to 50 lbs.
