Job summary

University of Delaware is seeking a Farm Assistant II/III at the Carvel Research and Education Center in Georgetown, DE. The role supports agricultural research, operates and maintains equipment, and applies pesticides and nutrients per protocols.

The position offers on-campus housing availability and requires handling field operations, maintenance, and data collection while coordinating with farm management and researchers. CDL and pesticide credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of agricultural production practices and machinery.
• Mechanical aptitude to repair and maintain equipment.
• Ability to follow research protocols and field plans.
• Experience with precision agriculture technologies or willingness to learn.
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
• Basic computer skills including email, Word and Excel.
• CDL and pesticide certifications preferred at hire; obtained if not already.

Responsibilities

• Operate, adjust, and maintain tractors, planters, sprayers, and other equipment.
• Perform field operations within research plots per protocols.
• Use precision ag tech such as GPS, autosteer, and machine monitoring.
• Manage irrigation systems, pumps, wells, and controls.
• Carry out maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities.
• Record maintenance, applications, and research data.
• Assist with equipment setup, calibration, and prep for activities.
• Transport equipment and supplies using light/heavy vehicles.
• Apply pesticides, fertilizers, and nutrients following protocols.
• Follow safety procedures and university policies.
