Job summary

Michigan State University Tollgate Farm is seeking a Farm Manager to oversee daily operations, facilities, equipment, and grounds. The role requires coordinating staff, volunteers, and seasonal workers to ensure educational programming and events run smoothly.

You will manage livestock and crops, maintain records, supervise preparation for programs, and collaborate with Tollgate leadership to implement efficient systems.

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree in Animal Science, Crop Science, Agriculture, Facilities Management, Natural Resources, or related field.
• One to three years of supervision or farm management experience.
• Experience operating tractors and agricultural equipment.
• Must complete MSU Employee Driver Certification and pass MSU Motor Vehicle Record Review.
• Must have a valid driver’s license where required.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and coordination for day-to-day farm operations for Tollgate Farm.
• Drive and operate farm vehicles and equipment.
• Order supplies and maintain inventory for operations.
• Interview, hire, supervise, schedule, and evaluate support staff.
• Maintain farm records and data; track maintenance and production.
• Conduct tours and promote public relations for the farm.
• Repair, maintain buildings and equipment; support breeding and crop programs.
• Manage Extension activities for the farm and coordinate with stakeholders.
