Job summary

Select Genetics in Missouri is seeking a Manager Trainee to build hands-on leadership skills in farm operations. This national program runs 6–12 months to develop future managers who can oversee broods, grows, and other operations with an eye toward safety and efficiency.

The role starts at $18.85 per hour (agricultural exempt, no overtime). You will train across multiple farms, support the Farm Manager, and be part of a team delivering quality poultry products nationwide.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education preferred.
• Experience or knowledge in animal husbandry and welfare is preferred.
• Valid Missouri driver's license with clean driving record (if driving company vehicles).
• Strong communication, leadership and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Participate in cross-training at farms and departments to learn operations.
• Assist with daily farm operations including animal care and sanitation.
• Wash and disinfect production facilities following safety procedures.
• Support Farm Manager in building and maintaining a productive team.
• Deliver supplies and equipment to various farm locations as needed.
• Ensure biosecurity, animal welfare and safety standards are met.
• Maintain a clean, safe and professional work environment.
• Organize tasks and prioritize to keep farm operations smooth.
• Perform physically demanding tasks and work varied schedules, including extended days and weekends.
• Mentor and train employees to achieve production goals and monitor progress.
• Follow directions of Farm Manager and Serviceman; protect company assets.
• Perform other duties as assigned; tasks may change with business needs.

Position Purpose

The Manager Trainee position is designed to provide hands‑on training and development in farm operations, preparing individuals to step into future leadership roles. This role supports the Farm Manager in day‑to‑day operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, animal welfare, and compliance with company standards.

• Participate in cross‑training at various farms and departments (Brood, Grow, Lay, Stud, Maintenance, HR) to gain a full understanding of company operations.
• Assist with daily farm operations, including animal care, facility sanitation, and equipment use.
• Wash and disinfect turkey production facilities in a safe, organized manner.
• Support the Farm Manager in building and maintaining a productive team environment.

Deliver supplies and equipment as needed to various farm locations.

• Ensure compliance with company biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
• Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure smooth farm operations.
• Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting 50+ lbs, bending, squatting, and extended periods of walking or standing.
• Work varied schedules, including extended days and weekends when required.
• Exhibit courtesy, professionalism, and a positive image of the company in all interactions.
• Follow the directives of the Farm Manager and Serviceman.
• Manage time effectively to complete tasks and responsibilities.
• Protect company assets and maintain a safe, biosecure work environment.
• Assist in training and mentoring employees to achieve production goals.
• Review and monitor progress against objectives; adjust plans as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s in a related field preferred).
• Knowledge and/or experience in animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
• Valid Missouri Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (if driving company vehicles).
• Must not own or operate backyard poultry, fowl, or swine operations off duty (biosecurity requirement).
• Basic math skills; computer literacy preferred.
• Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
• Ability to lead, train, and motivate team members.
• Self-starter with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Physically able to work in varied conditions (heat, cold, dust, humidity, chemicals).
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills a plus.
