Job summary

Select Genetics in Raeford, NC, seeks a Farm Manager to oversee on-farm brood operations. You will follow directives from The Service Tech and Division Manager, maintain a safe, clean facility, manage feed inventory, and input mortalities in the M-Tech database to support flock performance.

Job description

Select Genetics presents a solid platform to serve customers nationally and internationally by providing quality poults, service, and innovation. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies worldwide. The Farm Manager's requirements are as follows:

  • Basic math skills are essential.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Be a self-starter without the need for constant supervision.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Good reading skills.
  • Wash and disinfect turkey production facilities in a safe and organized manner.
  • Follow the company's rules and regulations for biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety.
  • Work respectively and collaboratively with one General Farm Worker, The Vaccination Crew (when they service the farm), The Service Technician, The Veterinarian (when they visit the farm), The Breeder Manager, and The Chief Operation Office (whenever he visits).
  • Be willing to help in any area to get the job done.
  • Can push, bend, stoop, squat, pull, and lift to 50lb.
  • Successfully work with live animals.
  • Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations.
  • Perform the job duties while constantly moving and using hands, occasionally lifting objects while exposed to dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals, and fumes.
  • Work an extended day, night, and weekend. This is crucial when a new flock of birds arrives because they are babies.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the company.
  • Exhibit courtesy and professionalism in everything you do.
Responsibilities
  1. Follow the directives of The Service Tech and The Division Manager.
  2. Use and demonstrate time management well.
  3. Ensure the safety of Select Genetics assets (weed eaters, mowers, water hoses, etc.) under the position's management.
  4. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  5. A willingness to work varied schedules where some weekends will be required.
  6. Daily document and input mortalities in the M-Tech (Company's database system) the number of dead and culled birds per barn, if any.
  7. Take feed inventory daily or at least every other day to ensure bins are adequately supplied.
  8. Call in the farm's weekly feed order early on Wednesdays.
  9. Weigh birds weekly as directed by The Service Tech and/or The Breeder Manager to ensure birds' weights are where they should be.
  10. Follow and enforce all company regulations on biosecurity, animal welfare, and safety.
  11. Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
  12. Responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the company's needs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent or two years of related experience.
  • Experience in brood or growing turkey farms.
  • Does not own or operate around backyard poultry, foul, or swine operations off-duty.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record if needed.
  • A solid understanding of fundamental business practices; the ability to lead and manage others; the ability to build creative, productive, and cohesive teams; excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and listening; the ability to be self-sufficient and able to organize and prioritize work; the ability to work under pressure; the ability to read and interpret relevant technical, industry, government regulations, and legislation; the ability to communicate interact, influence, persuade all levels of employees. The incumbent must exhibit sound business judgment, be decisive, flexible, and have determination.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
