Job summary

Select Genetics seeks a Farm Manager to oversee brooding and growing turkeys for placement farms across our network. You will lead a team, monitor production, enforce biosecurity and welfare standards, and ensure efficient operations.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong communication, readiness to work varied shifts, and capability to move and lift materials. A Missouri driver’s license and prior poultry experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have basic math and computer skills; strong reading and writing abilities are essential.
• Candidate should be self-motivated, able to work without constant supervision, and capable of leading others.
• Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills are a plus and helpful for team communication.

Responsibilities

• Oversee brooding and growing turkeys for placement farms; manage production schedules.
• Lead, train, and mentor farm staff to build a high-performing team.
• Run activity reports and coordinate with the Serviceman/Division Manager to adjust objectives.
• Ensure biosecurity, animal welfare, safety, and a clean, safe working environment.
• Work extended hours including nights and weekends as needed; maintain professional company image.

Farm Manager requirements are as follows:

This position is responsible for brooding and growing turkeys for our placement farms.

• Basic math skills are essential.
• Basic computer skills preferred.
• Be a self-starter without the need for constant supervision.
• Good written and verbal communication.
• Good reading skills.
• Wash and disinfect turkey production facilities in a safe and organized manner.
• Follow all of the company’s rules and regulations for bio security, animal welfare and safety.
• Work productively with peers in building an effective team.
• Be willing to help in any area to get the job done.
• Work with a variety of tools and equipment.
• Have the ability to push, bend, stoop, squat, pull and lift 50lbs or more
• Successfully work with live animals.
• Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations.
• Perform the duties of the job while constantly moving and using hands, occasionally lifting objects while being exposed to dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals and fumes.
• Work an extended work day, night and weekend, if needed.
• Present a positive and professional image of the company.
• Exhibit courtesy and professionalism in everything you do.
• Follow the directives of the Serviceman/Division Manager.
• Effective time management.
• Ensure the safety of Select Genetics assets under the position’s management.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• Willingness to work varied schedule where some weekends will be required.
• Run/review activity reports determining the progress and status in attaining objectives, conference with the Serviceman to revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
• Follow and enforce all company regulations pertaining to bio security, animal welfare and safety.
• Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
• Lead, train, motivate, and mentor employees on the farm with the objective of building and maintaining a high performing team to meet or exceed production goals.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent or 2 years related experience.
• Experience in brood or grow turkey farms.
• Does not own or operate around backyard poultry, foul, or swine operations off duty.
• Knowledge and/or experience of animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
• A valid Missouri Driver’s License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record if needed.
• A solid understanding of basic business practices; the ability to lead and manage others; the ability to build creative, productive, and cohesive teams; excellent communication skills including verbal, written and listening; the ability to be self-sufficient and able to organize and prioritize work; the ability to work under pressure; the ability to read and interpret relevant technical, industry, government regulations and legislation; the ability to communicate interact, influence, persuade all levels of employees. The incumbent must exhibit sound business judgement, be decisive, flexible, and have determination.
