Job description

Farm, Fleet & Property Maintenance Technician

Flyaway Geese / Flyaway Farm & Kennels — Stanfield, NC

Full-Time | Year-Round

Are you the person who can fix just about anything?

Flyaway Farm & Kennels is looking for a hands-on, mechanically inclined person to take responsibility for the maintenance of our farm, vehicles, equipment, grounds and facilities.

This is not a traditional farm-hand position.

We're looking for someone who can operate a tractor in the morning, repair a fence in the afternoon, change the oil in a work vehicle, troubleshoot a mower that won't start, and notice something that needs attention without waiting for someone to tell them.

If you're the person everyone calls when something breaks, we want to meet you.

What You'll Be Responsible For
Vehicles & Fleet
  • Perform routine maintenance on company vehicles
  • Oil and filter changes
  • Battery replacement and testing
  • Tire changes, rotations and basic tire maintenance
  • Brake inspection and basic brake repairs
  • Replace lights, wipers, belts and other serviceable components
  • Diagnose basic mechanical problems
  • Maintain vehicle service schedules and records
  • Inspect vehicles regularly and identify problems before they become expensive repairs
  • Coordinate outside repairs when a job requires a professional automotive shop
Tractors & Equipment
  • Operate and maintain tractors, zero-turn mowers, bush hogs and other farm equipment
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance
  • Troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical problems
  • Maintain batteries, belts, blades, fluids, filters and other wear items
  • Keep equipment clean, serviced and ready to work
  • Hook up, move and back trailers
Farm & Property
  • Mowing and grounds maintenance
  • Fence and gate construction and repair
  • Brush clearing and chainsaw work
  • Building and property maintenance
  • Basic plumbing and electrical repairs
  • General carpentry and repairs
  • Maintain driveways, drainage and outdoor areas

Kennel & Farm Support

  • Help load/unload dogs, supplies and equipment
  • Assist with farm projects and improvements
  • Work safely around working Border Collies and other animals
Who We're Looking For

We care much more about what you can actually do than what your previous job title was.

You might come from:

  • Automotive or diesel repair
  • Farm or agricultural work
  • Heavy equipment
  • Landscaping or grounds maintenance
  • Golf-course maintenance
  • Construction
  • Property/facilities maintenance
  • Horse or livestock farms
  • Small-engine repair
  • Military mechanical or equipment experience

The ideal person knows their way around tools, vehicles and equipment and enjoys solving problems.

The Most Important Qualification

You see what needs to be done and do it.

We aren't looking for someone who needs a detailed task list every morning.

We're looking for someone who eventually knows the property, vehicles and equipment well enough to spot a problem, determine what needs to happen and take care of it.

Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Reliable transportation
  • Experience maintaining or repairing vehicles and/or mechanical equipment
  • Comfortable operating tractors and lawn equipment
  • Comfortable using hand and power tools
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work
  • Comfortable working around dogs
  • Dependable attendance
  • Able to work independently

Automotive, diesel, tractor, small-engine or equipment repair experience is highly desirable.

Formal certifications are welcome but are not required if you have strong hands-on experience.
