General Summary

The mechanic reports to the Production supervisor and is responsible for fixing tractors and other farming implements.

The mechanic uses specialized skills and experience to diagnose problems with equipment or farm machinery and generate cost‑effective solutions. This position includes tasks ranging from working on an engine's electrical system to welding cracked pipefitting. The mechanic maintains equipment in good repair and functioning at its full potential through preventative maintenance and required repairs.

Essential Functions

• Use a high degree of independent judgment; assume responsibility for repairs such as cultivators, compost spreaders, pressure nozzles, etc.
• Diagnose defective equipment and/or machinery, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
• Analyze and interpret equipment manuals.
• Interact with the parts department to ensure parts are available for repairs and inventory.
• Use specialized tools to measure wear on internal working components of engines and transmissions.
• Disassemble and assemble equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and adhere to all DFF safety policies, procedures, and instructions from management.
• Collaborate with team members from other departments to ensure repairs are completed on time.
• Perform welding or fabrication duties as needed.
• Provide assistance to other mechanics troubleshooting repairs.
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Physical demands include talking or hearing regularly, standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Noise level is usually moderate. Workers must be willing to learn new mechanical practices, work day or night shifts as needed, and may be requested to act as team leaders or transport workers between housing and worksite locations. Routine maintenance and major engine overhauls, diagnosing operational defects, dismantling units, repairing or replacing parts, lubricating machines, installing and repairing wiring and motors, and test‑driving vehicles or equipment are required.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months experience as an agricultural equipment mechanic.
• Ability to diagnose problems and repair farm machinery including tractors, forklifts, harvest equipment, irrigation, and spraying equipment.
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, with a clean driving record.
• Physical ability to meet and perform all job specifications.
• Ability to work in hot, humid weather for extended periods of time.
