Job summary

Shelburne Farms is a Vermont education nonprofit seeking fellows to work with school programs, summer camps, and family/public programs. The fellowship runs January through November, with on-site housing and a weekday schedule from 8am–4pm; occasional weekend work may occur.

Fellows will be mentored by the education staff, participate in trainings, and develop professional goals and learning plans in a culturally responsive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • College graduate.
  • Interest and/or prior experience with education, sustainability, or farm-based education.
  • Prior work experience with camps or education programs.
  • Positive and flexible attitude with co-workers and visitors.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Communicative with an interest in engaging with people of different ages and backgrounds.
  • Openness to receive constructive feedback and grow.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in an orientation to Shelburne Farms and to the fellow role.
  • Participate in farmyard and summer camp training sessions.
  • Meet with the supervisor to create professional goals and a learning plan.
  • Check in regularly with mentors and supervisor.
  • Observe, team teach, and teach activities across school programs, camps, and family/public programs.
  • Prepare lessons and materials; support family programs and events on weekends.
  • Attend planning meetings and contribute to program development.
  • Work Monday-Friday 8am-4pm; occasional weekend work.
  • Background check is required.
