# Farm AssistantFar Rock Farm - Far Rockaway, NY 11691## OverviewSalary Range$20.00 - $20.00 Hourly## DescriptionThe Farm Assistant is responsible for supervising and ensuring the smooth daily operation of the farm, including crop production, farm stand management, and general farm activities. This role involves caring for vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers, and seedlings, as well as overseeing the farm stand’s operation to ensure efficient sales and distribution. The Farm Assistant also provides brief weekly reports to the Assistant Farm Manager detailing completed tasks and pounds harvested. Additionally, they support overall farm activities and production, contributing to the farm’s efficiency, sustainability, and success.Responsibilities • Development & Planning • Work closely with the Lead Farmer to plan a feasible seasonal Green Teen curriculum • Prepare to teach/lead several workshops during Green Teen training programs • Give Lead Farmer pointers and suggestions for maximum yield • Work with Farm Manager and the Director of Programs to organize and set up TCAH’s annual Children's Harvest Festival (Fall Event) • Prepare to attend any farm related events hosted by TCAH or elsewhereSupervising • Supervise all tasks given to Green Teen interns; ensure tasks are done effectively and in a timely manner • Supervise volunteers, school groups, corporate groups, special tours • Oversee farm stand performance • Manual Labor • Monitor and maintain the quality of crops, ensuring healthy yields and quality produce • Ensure produce is ready for pickup by meeting deadlines for CSAs, mobile farm stands, pantries, cafés, and restaurants • Engage in hands-on farming activities, including bed preparation, watering, seeding, transplanting, and harvesting • Oversee the maintenance and repairs of farm tools, equipment, fences, gates, and greenhouses • Tend to chickens, ensuring their needs are met by harvesting eggs, feeding chicks, and cleaning the coop • Monitor the operation of compost bins and manage chicken manure for composting • Assist the Assistant Farm Manager with production for distribution to the farm stand and other outletsFarm Stand • Sell produce at the farm stand and maintain financial records for all transactions • Ensure the cash box is securely maintained and managed## QualificationsQualifications • High School Diploma or Equivalent • Previous Farm Work Experience • Internships or Apprenticeships • Effective communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.Working Conditions • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work on-site at multiple locations. • Manual Labor and Physical Fitness • Dependable, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
