Qualifications

  • Associate degree in early childhood, Education, Social Work, Family Services, or related field with 5 years’ experience OR bachelor’s degree with 2 years’ experience.
  • Healthy Families America Certification must be completed within 6 months of employment.
  • National Certification Exam for Home Visitors must be passed within 1 year of employment.
  • Moderate computer knowledge and ability to enter documentation into databases.
  • Ability to drive, stand, walk, climb stairs, crouch, sit, and lift up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and maintain regular, potentially long-term contact and support with families up to five years.

  • Conduct home visits, assessments, and screenings per Healthy Families America model.
  • Establish trusting relationships and strengthen parent-child relationships and parenting skills.
  • Refer families to programs and agencies and help improve home environments and support systems.
  • Recruit and enroll families to maintain full caseload capacity.
  • Collect and submit data for monthly and annual reports.
  • Plan and conduct monthly group socialization activities.
  • Develop partnerships with providers and represent Sieda and the MIECHV program.

Job description

  • Initiate and maintain regular, potentially long-term contact and support with families for up to five years
  • Provide primarily in-home, family-centered, strength-based services and visits lasting at least one hour
  • Conduct home visits, assessments, and screenings according to the Healthy Families America model
  • Establish trusting relationships and strengthen parent-child relationships and parenting skills
  • Help families improve home environments, support systems, problem-solving, self-advocacy, and family stability
  • Establish family goals and plans, identify needs and barriers, and refer families to programs and agencies
  • Provide trauma-informed, culturally competent services and support safety
  • Teach nurturing and effective behavior-management techniques
  • Educate expecting parents about prenatal health and development
  • Connect families with health, nutrition, mental health, transportation, special-needs, and other resources
  • Recruit and enroll families to maintain full caseload capacity
  • Attend supervision and monthly staff meetings
  • Collect and submit data for monthly and annual reports
  • Communicate pertinent information to the MIECHV Program Manager and/or Economic and Family Support Services Director
  • Self-schedule tasks and visits within program timeframes
  • Plan and conduct monthly group socialization activities
  • Observe, record, and plan for children’s and families’ needs
  • Develop partnerships with providers and represent Sieda and the MIECHV program
  • Ensure enrolled preschool children receive needed health, dental, nutrition, mental health, and preventive services
Requirements
  • Associate degree in early childhood, Education, Social Work, Family Services, or related field from an accredited college or university and 5 years’ experience working with children and/or families; OR bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited four-year college or university and 2 years’ experience working with children and/or families
  • Healthy Families America Certification must be completed within the first 6 months of employment or as soon as offered by HFA
  • National Certification Exam for Home Visitors must be passed and certification obtained within 1 year of employment
  • Staff with an AA must begin working toward a BA after the first year, with the BA completed within 4 years of employment start
  • Obtain required training and background checks within required timeframes
  • Moderate computer knowledge and experience
  • Ability to enter documentation and data into agency/funder/model databases
  • Ability to use Google and Microsoft software applications with minimal training
  • Ability to schedule and participate in virtual meetings using Zoom, Google Meet, Webex, or similar platforms
  • Ability to maintain and operate a laptop computer and agency‑issued cell phone
  • Ability to communicate effectively one‑on‑one and in groups, read and interpret program documents, and write accurate documentation
  • Ability to define barriers, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and follow policies/procedures
  • Ability to drive, stand, walk, climb stairs, crouch, sit, and occasionally lift or move 20 pounds
