Job description

Family Support Specialist – Home Visiting

We’re Growing Our Team!

Are you passionate about helping families thrive? Do you believe that meaningful relationships can create lasting change? Action for Children is expanding our home visiting team, and we’re looking for compassionate, motivated Family Support Specialists to join us! This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact by partnering with families, supporting healthy child development, and helping parents and caregivers build on their strengths. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that believes in the power of connection and the importance of giving every child a strong start.

Who We Are

Action for Children is Central Ohio’s local childcare resource and referral agency. Our mission is to transform the lives of children by supporting, empowering, and advocating for the adults who make the biggest impact in their lives—their parents, caregivers, and teachers. We offer a supportive, mission-driven workplace where employees are valued, encouraged to grow, and empowered to make a difference.

What You’ll Do

As a Family Support Specialist, you’ll develop meaningful, long-term relationships with families through regular home visits, often supporting them over three to five years.

In this role, you will:

  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with families through regular home visits.
  • Promote healthy child development and positive parent-child interactions.
  • Help families identify goals, celebrate milestones, and build on their strengths.
  • Conduct developmental screenings and assessments, including the FROG Scale, ASQ, ASQ, and depression screenings.
  • Develop individualized Family Service Plans and support families in achieving their goals.
  • Connect families with community resources and services.
  • Provide culturally responsive, family-centered support.
Collaborate with your team and participate in reflective supervision and professional development.

Home visits primarily take place in families’ homes and typically last at least one hour. Virtual visits may be conducted as appropriate.

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development for children ages birth to five.
  • Current Healthy Families Ohio Home Visitor Full Credential or eligibility to obtain the credential.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with culturally diverse families.
  • Knowledge of Franklin County community resources or the ability to research and identify available services.
  • Willingness to learn, grow, and participate in reflective supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general technology.

Additional experience with home visiting, the Healthy Families America model, Growing Great Kids curriculum, or an Infant Mental Health Endorsement is a plus, but not required.

You’ll Thrive Here If…

You’re empathetic, dependable, and passionate about helping others succeed. You enjoy connecting with people, celebrating progress, and finding creative solutions to challenges. You can work independently while also being an engaged team member, and you believe every family deserves to feel supported, respected, and empowered.

Why Join Action for Children?

We believe meaningful work should come with meaningful support. Our benefits include:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance with eligibility within 30 days of hire.
  • Generous vacation, personal time, and paid holidays.
    Hybrid work schedule.
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer match of up to 1%.
  • 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave for eligible birth, adoption, and foster placements.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven team and opportunities for professional growth.
Ready to Make an Impact?

We’re hiring multiple Family Support Specialists as we expand our home visiting team. Whether you’re an experienced home visitor or looking to bring your skills into a rewarding new role, we’d love to hear from you!

Final candidates will be required to complete reference and background checks. Only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
