Job summary

The Virginia Department of Social Services Portsmouth office is seeking a qualified supervisor to oversee CPS unit staff, guide casework practices, and ensure adherence to state and federal policies. You will lead, train, and evaluate staff, manage resources, and participate in community outreach and reporting duties.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in human services with supervisory experience; MSW is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a human services field with supervisory experience.
• Master of Social Work (MSW) preferred for advanced CPS work.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal Social Services laws and policies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise family services workers and supervisors on case-related issues and agency initiatives.
• Plan caseloads, assign cases, review records, and sign off on service plans and reports.
• Monitor expenditures, staff development, and resource deployment.
• Educate the community about agency programs and prepare statistical reports.
• Represent CPS in FAPT and similar team activities; participate in on-call coverage.
