Job summary

The YMCA of the East Bay is hiring a Family Services Coordinator to implement comprehensive family services within Head Start and Early Head Start programs. You will supervise Family Advocate staff, lead outreach and recruitment, and coordinate family engagement activities across funded centers.

Responsibilities include ensuring program alignment with federal/state standards, monitoring case files and outcomes, and collaborating with parents and partners to meet child and family needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, social welfare, human development, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
• Three years of Head Start or similar experience with low-income families.
• Experience working with multilingual, immigrant, and low-income families.
• Strong knowledge of federally/state-subsidized program requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, database systems, and related software.
• Valid California Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance; DMV checks.
• Ability to meet background clearance and health requirements (TB, immunizations).

Position Summary

The Family Services Coordinator is responsible for implementing comprehensive family services in alignment with the goals, mission, and policies of the YMCA of the East Bay. This position provides supervision, guidance, and support to Family Advocate staff; leads community outreach and recruitment efforts to identify and enroll eligible families; and coordinates family engagement activities.

The Family Services Coordinator ensures that services are delivered in accordance with the goals, objectives, and performance standards of Early Head Start, Head Start, and state-funded programs across directly operated and partner programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, social welfare, human development, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
• Three years of experience working in Head Start or another child development program serving low-income children and families preferred.
• Experience working with multilingual, immigrant, and low-income families.
• Strong knowledge of the theories, practices, and requirements of federally and state-subsidized programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, database management systems, and other computer applications necessary to perform the duties of the position.
• Valid California Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance required; annual DMV record check required.
• Ability to meet required criminal background clearance and health requirements, including physical examination, TB clearance, and required immunizations.
• Livescan/fingerprint clearance through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Community Care Licensing (CCL) agencies required.

Specific Essential Function from the Job Description for this role

• Develop and lead high-quality programming that achieves service delivery goals.
• In collaboration with the Director of Health and Family Services and the Family Services Manager, recruit, supervise, develop, evaluate, retain and motivate a highly qualified and mission-driven Family Advocate team.
• Work cooperatively with other program managers and staff to support the overall goals and objectives of the program and monitor program implementation.
• Monitor all service area activities for Family Services, including child/family files, family goal setting/outcomes and family communications, case notes, and family engagement levels at special events/trainings.
• Support Family Advocate staff in recruiting and maintaining parent engagement for program-wide Parent Center Committee meetings and Policy Council.
• Participate in area-specific and overall program assessment and evaluation.
• Develop and implement corrective action plans for areas of non-compliance within service/content areas for both direct operated and partner programs.
• Collaborate with parents and community members to ensure that overall needs of the children and families are met.
• Conduct or arrange for parent and staff training and technical assistance in service area and in conjunction with other managers.
• In collaboration with the Management Team, support the Health/Mental Health Services Advisory Committee comprised of community professionals and agencies to help the program respond to community needs.
• Establish and support collaborative relationships with community organizations to promote the access of children and their families to community social services that are responsive to their needs, and to ensure that the program responds to community needs.
• Support local and neighborhood specific family outreach and recruitment.
• Special projects and other duties as assigned

The Family Services Coordinator has a primary impact on the development and delivery of high-quality family and health services within the Early Childhood Impact Department. Effectiveness in this position will be demonstrated by:
