Qualifications

Description

The Catholic Diocese of Richmond is seeking a highly qualified Family Service Advisor to serve at St. Andrews Cemetery in Roanoke, VA.

This position is part of the Office of Cemeteries and is responsible for guiding families through both pre-need and at-need cemetery planning using a compassionate, “Family First” approach.

Essential Functions:
  • The FSA (Family Service Advisor) provides advanced planning with families.
  • Help families plan in an at need basis and using a “Family First” approach
  • Tracks all leads and keeps current with scheduling of activities and communications.
  • Meets with a minimum of 20 pre-need appointments per month, around 2 per day.
  • Follows OCFSS (Office of Cemetery and Funeral Services) Advanced Planning processes and presents “Complete Packages” to families.
  • Follows OCFS referral processes and arranges a minimum of 5 referrals per month.
  • Attends and participates in community networking and outreach events.
  • Follows OCFS At-Need processes and presentations with families.
  • Properly introduces the subject of advanced planning with all At-Need families during arrangement process.
  • Attends committal ceremony and assists when needed.
  • Sets and attends memorial design process and serves as the key point of contact with families.
  • Follows-up with families and extended family or friends for the purpose of advanced planning.
  • Currently Responsible for 3 Cemeteries in Western Virginia
Administrative and Revenue Expectations
  • Assures compliance with legal and safety requirements, OCFS policies and OCFS directives.
  • Follows all OCFS at-need and pre-need processes and procedures.
  • Follows and properly completes in a timely manner, all associated contracts, documents and payment processing.
  • Accurately updates all supporting at-need and pre-need support processes (maps, burial calendars, etc.)
  • Maintains a minimum of 1:5:1 pre-need to at-need ratio.
Educational / Experience Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree in a related field preferred; at least 3 years of relevant cemetery experience.
  • A practicing Catholic is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and build trusted relationships with families is essential to success in this role.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be compassionate and caring. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software; and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Required skills include planning and organization, interpersonal, time management, and attention to detail. Must be able to multi-task and adapt as needed to changing priorities. The ability to maintain adequate records and keep such records current is essential. A working knowledge of Catholic Church teaching and structure is required. A practicing Catholic is preferred.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. May require prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting; physical exertion to manually, move, lift, carry, pull or push objects or materials up to 15 pounds; and occasional stooping, bending and reaching. Valid state issued driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of insurance is required.

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt position. Within the framework of such general guides and policies as may be issued by the Diocese of Richmond. Is expected to recognize and bring to the attention of cognizant authority those matters which could result in controversial issues or otherwise be called to their attention.
