The FSWS is expected to:

1. be prepared to work non-standard work hours which often include late evenings, weekends, and some holidays;
2. operate a motor vehicle safely according to applicable laws at any time of day or night;
3. have reliable personal transportation;
4. maintain extensive in-state travel ability;
5. maintain a valid driver’s license and current auto insurance;
6. work with families who are experiencing poverty, addiction, and/or some type of neglectful or abusive situation;
7. lift weight (i.e., picking up children) up to 50 lbs.;

Summary

The Family Service Worker Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and providing protective foster care and supportive services for abused or neglected children. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

1. Supervises a subordinate support staff by communicating prioritization of activities and project deadlines, reviewing and monitoring the work performed, interpreting policies, procedures, or precedents and providing supervisory or management staff with project updates on a regular and recurring basis to ensure adherence to project goals and timeframes.
2. Reviews and monitors case records and reports to ensure quality service delivery and compliance with state and federal laws and agency policy.
3. Reviews and discusses information obtained by workers investigating suspected child abuse and neglect complaints to determine if allegations can be substantiated.
4. Coordinates services with other agencies when assisting multi-problem clients.
5. Presents informational programs on agency activities and services to local civic organizations and schools.
6. Provides direct casework services for protective, foster care and supportive services cases and conducts home studies and investigations of suspected child abuse and neglect.
7. Recruits, trains and provides support to foster parents.
8. Prepares court reports for custody hearings and presents testimony when necessary.
9. Attends or conducts staff meetings to develop and monitor case plans.
10. Develops budgets requests for program activities and submits for approval and reviews and approves expenditures.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or a related field; plus four years of experience in child welfare or human services. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
