Job summary

Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin Inc. is seeking a Family Resource Specialist to assess the needs of pregnant women and families with infants and children, connect them to community resources, and coordinate services in hospitals, family homes, and community settings.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to meet client and program needs. The role emphasizes outreach, assessments, referrals, and collaboration with hospital staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: Associate's Degree in Child Development, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent experience.
• Preferred education: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum experience: 1 year working with families, child abuse and neglect prevention, maternal/child health, or child development.
• Preferred experience: 2+ years working with families, child abuse and neglect prevention, maternal/child health, child development and/or home visitation.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Family Resource Specialist assesses the strengths and needs of pregnant women and families with infants and children, determines service needs, and provides information, connections, and linkages to community resources. Services are provided in hospitals, family homes, and community settings. Candidates must be available to work occasional evening and weekend hours to meet client and program needs.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Provide outreach and information regarding programming and services available to families at community events.
2. Visit hospital(s) daily and assemble list of parents. Conduct visits in the assigned hospital or home and contact all parents who have delivered. Effectively and enthusiastically explain the benefits of participating in the program.
3. Complete assessment on each parent accepting the interview in an organized and uniform manner as determined by the program needs.
4. Assess family strengths and needs, determine program eligibility, and make appropriate referrals when needed. Utilize standard established criteria and professional judgment. Maintain professional contact and level of contact within the system.
5. Provide information on community resources.
6. Build and maintain strong, professional working relationship with the hospital staff and other service providers.
7. Forward all completed assessments from the eligible participant families, as directed, in a timely manner.
8. May meet with previously-assessed families in their home to provide follow-up services.
9. Provide training to volunteers, students, and new team members as requested.
10. Promote and encourage team building to maintain professional relationships within the program.
11. Attend scheduled team, staff, and group supervision meetings and other meetings as deemed necessary by the program manager or agency.
12. Uphold the NASW Code of Ethics as adopted by Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Education: Associate's Degree in Child Development, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent experience

Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent experience

Minimum Experience: 1 year experience working with families, child abuse and neglect prevention, maternal/child health, or child development.

Preferred Experience: 2 + year experience working with families, child abuse and neglect prevention, maternal/child health, child development and/or homevisitation.

Qualifications:

• Valid Wisconsin Driver's License, with reliable personal vehicle. Maintain required auto insurance and acceptable driving record requirements.
• Experience in working with or providing services to children and families.
• Knowledge of infant and child development.
• Advanced interpersonal skills to build rapport quickly with others.
• Acceptance of individual differences.
• Strong organizational and computer skills.
• Knowledge of programs and community resources.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and written.
• Ability and knowledge base and skills necessary to assess participants utilizing standard criteria and professional judgment.
• Experience and willingness to work with culturally diverse populations present among the site's population.
• Open to reflective practice (i.e. has capacity for introspection, communicates awareness of self in relation to others, recognizes value of supervision, etc.)
• Ability to manage a flexible schedule in order to meet client needs, which may include evenings.
