Job summary

Family Support Organization of Essex County seeks a Family Partner to provide face-to-face peer support, education and advocacy to parents and caregivers involved with the New Jersey Children’s System of Care. The role requires a caregiver who has navigated the system and can advocate for the child’s needs.

The Family Partner will build supportive relationships, assess family strengths, educate on team roles, and help families participate in meetings such as CF Team, court hearings and school

Qualifications

• Bilingual preferred: Spanish and/or French Creole.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Clear idea expression and ability to explain concepts in English (oral and written).
• Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to respond with urgency and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain supportive relationships with caregivers assigned by referral through the Children’s System of Care.
• Conduct Family Assessment of Strengths and Needs and create action plans with caregivers.
• Educate caregivers on roles of Child Family Team members and build a team with natural supports.
• Assist families in expressing needs at meetings (e.g., CFTeam meetings, court hearings).
• Educate on Wraparound values and identify natural supports for the team.
• Document caregiver encounters in the agency’s system of record.
• Attend training (min. 4 times/year) and achieve Family Partner certification within timelines.
