Position Summary

The Family Medicine Physician will function as one of the primary medical services providers for Mary’s Center, responsible for assessment, diagnosis, and implementing care interventions for patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed health problems. They must evaluate the effectiveness of treatment modalities and referrals through autonomous and accountable decisions supported by current research. This position is based at our clinic in Silver Spring, MD.

Reportability

This position reports directly to the Site Medical Director and collaborates with clinical leads. The clinician’s performance is evaluated annually on clinical competency by the Site Medical Director or proxies such as the Associate Medical Director or Clinical Leads.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide quality primary wellness and sick care to adult and pediatric patients efficiently.
  2. Practice within quality standards such as HEIDIS.
  3. Perform routine medical duties including completing notes, reviewing lab results, addressing telephone encounters, and billing accurately.
  4. Collaborate with internal and external healthcare providers for medical decisions.
  5. Participate in team meetings, projects, and policy initiatives.
  6. Participate in Saturday clinics and on-call schedule as needed.
  7. Coordinate patient transfers to emergency facilities and hospitalization when necessary.
  8. Coordinate sub-specialty care with nursing and social work staff.
  9. Provide patient and staff education to improve care quality.
  10. Guide and assist medical assistants.
  11. Participate in inter-departmental meetings and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Medical Director and EVP, Medicine.
Qualifications

Requires an M.D. or D.O., current medical license in Maryland and DC, and preferably board certification in family or internal medicine. At least two years of practice in a community health setting is preferred. Experience working with immigrant or disadvantaged populations is highly desirable. Fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Regular sitting, reaching, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Work mostly in a clinic setting with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, requiring Universal Precautions.
