Build Your Family Law Career at Hemmat Law Group

At Hemmat Law Group, you’ll work on some of the Pacific Northwest’s most complex family law matters while being supported by a team that is genuinely invested in your success.

Whether you’re early in your career or an experienced attorney looking for a supportive, high-performing team, we’d love to hear from you.

While family law experience is strongly preferred, we are open to attorneys with other litigation backgrounds who are excited to build a long-term career in family law.

Founded in 1994 by Steven Amir Hemmat, a former DOJ trial attorney, Hemmat Law Group is a Seattle-based family law firm representing clients throughout Washington State.

Our attorneys handle complex family law matters including divorce, child custody disputes, parenting plans, relocations, modifications, and high asset divorces. We are known for providing clear guidance, strong advocacy, and practical solutions during some of the most difficult periods in our clients’ lives.

Why Attorneys Choose HLG
Focus on Practicing Law

We believe attorneys should spend their time advocating for clients, developing case strategy, and practicing law—not managing administrative tasks.

That’s why we’ve built a support structure that allows attorneys to focus on legal work rather than everything that comes with running a practice.

At HLG, you’ll have:
  • A dedicated intake team that handles consultations and lead follow-up.
  • A billing team that manages invoicing and collections.
  • Experienced paralegals and legal support staff.
  • Operations, HR, IT, and administrative support.
  • Modern technology and systems designed to streamline your practice.

You won’t be expected to generate your own leads, manage collections, or wear every hat in the firm.

Meaningful Litigation Experience

Our attorneys handle sophisticated family law matters involving high-conflict custody disputes, high-asset divorces, relocations, modifications, and contested litigation. You’ll gain meaningful responsibility while working alongside experienced family law attorneys.

Mentorship That Matters

We believe great attorneys are developed through mentorship, collaboration, and experience.

Whether you’re newer to family law or bringing years of litigation experience, you’ll work alongside attorneys who are invested in your success. Questions are encouraged, ideas are welcomed, and no one is expected to figure everything out alone.

A Collaborative Team

We value initiative, curiosity, and open communication. You’ll have the autonomy to manage your work while being backed by talented colleagues who genuinely want to see you succeed.

We Like Working Together

We believe strong teams are built through both collaboration and connection. In addition to working closely together, we host quarterly team events, celebrate milestones, and create opportunities for attorneys and staff to connect outside of client work.

Flexible Hybrid Work

Enjoy the benefits of regular in-person collaboration alongside the flexibility of working remotely.

Responsibilities
  • Manage an assigned family law caseload through resolution.
  • Develop case strategy and oversee litigation matters throughout Washington, primarily in King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties.
  • Represent clients in hearings, mediations, depositions, settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, declarations, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research and provide practical legal advice to clients.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and support staff to move matters forward efficiently.
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and team members.
  • Exercise sound judgment in complex and time-sensitive situations.
  • Meet established productivity expectations, including a target of six billable hours per business day.
  • Manage competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining exceptional client service.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment through mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Active Washington State Bar license in good standing.
  • Family law experience strongly preferred.
  • Attorneys with comparable litigation experience may also be considered, particularly where there is a demonstrated interest in building a long-term career in family law.
  • Strong litigation, legal writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively.
  • Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.

Salary Range: $95,000–$250,000+ annually

Compensation is based on experience, demonstrated capability, scope of responsibility, and overall contribution. In addition to base compensation, attorneys are eligible for performance-based incentive opportunities.

Benefits include:

  • 401(k) with 100% employer match up to 6% of salary.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
  • 10 paid company holidays.
  • Unstructured PTO model.
  • Monthly transportation stipend.
  • FSA and other tax-advantaged savings options.
  • Technology and home office support.
  • Professional headshots.
  • Casual office dress code when not client-facing.
  • Plenty of office snacks and beverages.
  • Quarterly team events and firm celebrations.
