Job summary

Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative in Omaha, NE, is seeking a Family Engagement Coordinator to lead and support Family Engagement Specialists within the Early Head Start program. Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and ongoing support to Family Engagement Specialists.
• Bi-monthly supervision meetings focused on case management, family engagement, and professional growth.
• Onboard, train, mentor, and develop family engagement staff.
• Provide FES coverage and caseload management during staff transitions or leaves of absence.
• Monitor workload, caseloads, documentation, and service coordination.
• Collaborate with education, health, mental health, disabilities, enrollment, and leadership teams.
• Promote a collaborative team culture focused on partnership and continuous improvement.
• Ensure family engagement practices are strengths-based and culturally responsive.
• Stay current on Head Start regulations and best practices.

About the job:

The Family Engagement Coordinator provides leadership, supervision, coaching, and support to Family Engagement Specialists (FES) who partner with families enrolled in the Early Head Start program. The Family Engagement Coordinator ensures that the FES build meaningful relationships with families, coordinating comprehensive services, strengthening family partnerships, and promoting family well-being, parent leadership, and self-sufficiency. They also support continuous improvement efforts and consistent implementation of family engagement practices across the program.

Duties include:

• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and ongoing support to Family Engagement Specialists.
• Conduct bi-monthly supervision meetings focused on case management practices, family engagement strategies, documentation, and professional growth.
• Support onboarding, training, mentoring, and professional development of family engagement staff.
• Provide FES coverage and caseload management during times of staff transition or leaves of absence.
• Monitor workload, caseloads, service coordination, and completion of required documentation.
• Promote a collaborative team culture focused on partnership, respect, and continuous improvement.
• Support staff in developing authentic, trusting relationships and Family Partnership Agreements with families enrolled in Early Head Start.
• Ensure family engagement practices are strengths-based and responsive to family culture, priorities, and goals.
• Assist staff in identifying and addressing barriers that impact family well-being.
• Ensure family engagement services are implemented in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, program policies, and procedures.
• Monitor documentation, case notes, family records, referrals, and follow-up activities for accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with education, health, mental health, disabilities, enrollment, and leadership teams to support comprehensive services for children and families.
• Participate in team meetings and program initiatives.
• Identify staff training needs and support development of training opportunities.
• Stay current on Head Start regulations, early childhood best practices and family support strategies.
• Perform other duties as needed.

About you:

We are looking for the following qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, public administration, or related field preferred; and
• NHSA Family Service Certification required within one year for employees without a college degree; and
• Minimum four years of experience providing social work or related services to families and children; and
• Prior management/supervisory experience preferred; or
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job duties and responsibilities
• Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance required.
• Knowledge of available local, state, and federal human services programs.
• Ability to work with families and children from various backgrounds.
• Knowledge of the principles and best practices of family engagement.
• Knowledge of evidence-based child development principles and best practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with families and staff.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• Knowledge of methods to handlesuspected or known child abuse and neglectcases in compliance with applicable federal,state, local, and tribal laws.
• High degree of discretion when dealing with sensitive situations or confidential information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work individually as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

An equivalent combination of education, work experience, and lived experience will be considered if the above qualifications aren’t fully met, so long as that combination is sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
