Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston is seeking a Family Engagement and Comprehensive Services Coordinator for Roxbury (Roxbury YMCA). The role ensures delivery of comprehensive services promoting health and wellbeing of students across five BPK programs.

Reports to the Regional Director of Early Education and is full-time, non-exempt. The position emphasizes building relationships with families, educators, and partners; coordinating screenings; and supporting children with special needs within collaboration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record in youth development, family engagement, and comprehensive services.
  • Able to work with diverse partners and maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain respectful, supportive relationships with families, educators, administrators, and community partners.
  • Engage one-on-one with families and serve as a resource for UPK and YMCA program questions.
  • Share and implement the Family Engagement Plan with enrolled families annually.
  • Coordinate developmental screenings and participate in family conferences as needed.
  • Support ASQ screenings and accommodations with BPS partners.
  • Plan for homeless engagement and liaison with HERN; collaborate with BPS for attendance waivers when needed.
  • Ensure education for children with IEPs in least restrictive environments.
  • Assist in BPS Family Engagement meetings and program newsletters.

Description

Title: Family Engagement and Comprehensive Services Coordinator

Location: Roxbury, 5 Supporting YGB Branches

Reports to: Regional Director of Early Education

Position Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt

At the YMCA of Greater Boston, the Family Engagement and Comprehensive Services Coordinator ensures delivery of and/or referral to comprehensive services that promote the overall health and wellbeing of students across our five BPK programs. Comprehensive services include those related to social-emotional and physical development that are essential in enabling children to be available and engaged in learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain respectful, supportive, and ongoing relationships with families, educators, administrators, and community partners
  • Engage one on one with families and serve as a resource for families who have questions about UPK and the YMCA of Greater Boston
  • Share the program’s Family Engagement Plan with enrolled families annually
  • Implement and facilitate components of the family engagement plan mentioned above, which may include but not limited to:
    • Weekly check ins for BPK teaching teams in the five BPK programs.
    • Creating and developing opportunities to identify and support families with additional service needs.
    • Research, plan and schedule developmental screenings (dental, hearing, vision, nutrition, etc.
    • Assist the center director and teachers on child assessments using Teaching Strategies Gold twice per year and offer to participate in family conferences to discuss assessment results.
    • Support the developmental screening using the ASQ development screen tool and ASQ professional development and technical support provided by BPS. Utilize the ASQ when a child appears to have a need for services.
    • Support teachers with ASQ (calling families, allow teachers to step out to call families).
    • Review applications and assist with reasonable accommodations to serve any child with a disability. Work directly with BPS in situations where accommodations seem unreasonable and notify parent(s) of decisions. Help educators/directors provide an environment where reasonable accommodations can be made. Work with YMCA staff/BPS staff to refer a child to a program where accommodations may be more appropriate.
    • Plan for maintaining a record of and monitor the number of children English Language Learners.
  • Responsible for the identification, enrollment, attendance and academic success of children who are experiencing homelessness. Act as the homeless liaison with Homeless Education Resource Network (HERN). Work with HERN and BPS to secure attendance waivers for children experiencing homelessness, as needed.
  • Ensure children with IEPs receive education in least restrictive environments.
  • Assist in organization of, and attend/participate in BPS Family Engagement meetings and activities at programs.
  • Assist Teachers to ensure regular newsletter communication goes out to families
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Education/Education, Human Services, Business, Social Services, or relevant field of study preferred.
  • Must have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in the areas of youth development, family engagement, and comprehensive services.
  • Experience with ACA & NAEYC accreditation preferred.
  • Programs must be achieving key metrics and producing meaningful qualitative results including by QRIS progression, net-promoter scores, licensure compliance and other experience metrics.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with Boston Public Schools and other partners in a professional manner as at YMCA Of Greater Boston representative.
  • Superior Communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the nature of the YMCA movement, volunteers and staff in the accomplishment of the YMCA goals, objectives and mission in the community.
  • Possess a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.
  • Must be highly motivated and possess a positive attitude towards the YMCA, character development and our mission.
  • Must maintain confidentiality across multiple programs.
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
Environment
  • Evening and/or early morning, and/or weekend hours required periodically.
  • The spring/early summer and late summer/early fall are key enrollment dates.
  • Family Engagement and Comprehensive Services Coordinator is required to ensure appropriate senior leadership coverage at all Early Education programs that are part of the Greater Boston YMCA. their home and assigned branches/program locations.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Must be able to meet multiple deadlines to ensure smooth access to families during high volume times.
