Neighborhood Development Area Educational Support Programs provide High School students the services and support they need to do better in school, enter college or an advanced training program, learn leadership skills and develop conflict resolution/mediation skills. East Side House Settlement is directly responsible for the administration of the NDA program, which enhances the academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships.

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Family Development Coach, will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of an Internship Program and its activities for high school students’ part of East Side House Settlement. The program will include various components including a series of workshops and small group sessions.

Primary Functions

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage a caseload of 38 participants
  • Conduct needs assessment analysis for each participant; Provide student feedback and support; devise individualized instructional plans for students.
  • Maintain records and files of Student Records/Data secured and locked at all times.
  • Assist students in developing and achieving life/career goals that are assessed throughout training and during career exploration.
  • Initiate and participate in case conferencing management to assist members achieve career and education goals.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis; Maintain records portfolios and student progress reports.
  • Establish liaisons with corporate and nonprofit organizations for identification of employment and internship opportunities, and to provide workshops and mentoring opportunities for students including coordination with other community youth employment assistance programs.
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team, providing onsite services; Coordinate program activities with other program and overall departmental staff to promote the most effective instructional program goals.
  • Be willing to become licensed in area of certification as required by program and lead trainings to certify participants.
  • Participate in relevant departmental meetings, trainings, case conferences, workshops and events.
  • Maintain database tracking and reporting of each student’s progress and measurable outcomes in DYCD database including timely entry of case notes of weekly meetings and incidents, and employment.
  • Prepare and present curriculum to students on job readiness and related topics; facilitate interactive Seminars.
  • Provide case management services for the students in the program.
  • Attend meetings with staff to review students’ progress and discuss appropriate trainings and intervention plans.
  • Actively participate in initiatives, affiliations, coalitions, etc. that pertain to East Side House’s mission.
  • Participate in assigned staff development trainings.
  • Actively participate in team and program meetings. Provide suggestions for program improvement and implementation.
  • Plan and conduct family or parent meetings.
  • Assist Director in overseeing the creation of innovative and contextualized student learning experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Skills/Experience

  • FDC certified within 1 year of being hired or Master’s Degree
  • Experience with youth at risk and/or school setting
  • Experience with student advisement/internships preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation and leadership skills. Demonstrated initiative, creativity, flexibility and follow-through
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong computer skills and technological experience including Microsoft Office (Word, Teams, etc.) Google Suite (Google Classroom, Docs, and Sheets) and similar programs
  • COVID Vaccine – As a recipient of Federal, State, and local funds, all staff are expected to be fully vaccinated or able to obtain vaccination before their start date

Expected Work Schedule

This role is a full-time position (35 hours/week) expected to generally work Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Some weekends may be required. Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESH's needs.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role does not supervise employees but will manage a caseload assigned to the program.

Work Environment

Business casual. This job operates in a school office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Travel

Minimal expected for this position.

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to successfully perform this job's essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This role is generally a sedentary role; however, some sorting/filing is required. Requirements include the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
