Job summary

Grand St Settlement Inc. seeks a Family Development Coach to manage the NDA grant at the Bushwick Community Center, serving 44 students with assessment, planning, and case management. You will work 5 days a week on-site at the school, coordinating services with school leadership and partners.

You will report to the Community School Assistant Director and support attendance, academics, and social-emotional learning, including internship referrals and resource connections.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree preferred, or in progress.
  • 2+ years of assessment, service planning, case management, and intervention with adolescents.
  • Experience collaborating with public schools and community organizations to help at-risk students.
  • Complete the FDC program within a year of hire.
  • Experience with assets/needs analysis and building partnerships with private/public partners.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a program of 35 students with assessment and case management inside the school.
  • Provide monthly coaching to each student to set goals on attendance, academics, and careers.
  • Coordinate services consistent with the NDA grant requirements with school staff.
  • Supervise Activity Specialists to ensure quality programming and workshops.
  • Connect families to community resources like job development and food support.
  • Submit attendance and case data into DYCD CONNECT.
  • Participate in ongoing Professional Development with GSS, DYCD & others.

LOCATION:Brooklyn, New York (Bushwick)

REPORT TO: Program Director

SALARY:$34,000, with excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401K plan, and paid vacation days.

HOURS:Full-Time, 35 hours per week, 11 am -7 pm. Late evenings and two Saturdays per month are required.

JOB SUMMARY:The Family Development Coach is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Neighborhood Development Area (NDA) Grant at the Bushwick-Hylan Community Center. The NDA program will serve 44 students and provide assessment, service planning, case management, and/or intervention work. The program will support attendance, academic and social-emotional learning, and connect students to internship opportunities and referrals to resources. The Family Development Coach is on-site at the school 5 days a week and is responsible for managing, integrating, and coordinating student and family support services at the school, as well as programming and partnerships. The Family Development Coach will report to the Community School Assistant Director.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENT:

  • Associate's degree preferred, or in progress.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience providing assessment, service planning, case management, and intervention
    work with an adolescent population and preferably already serving the school community in some capacity.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience collaborating effectively with public schools and community-based
    organizations to improve the outcomes of at-risk students.
  • Complete the Family Development Credential Program (FDC), a New York State professional development training within a year of hire.
  • Experience with assets and needs analysis, community organizing, problem-solving, networking and developing relationships with private and public partners, program management, and improving access to resources for students, parents, school staff, and community members.
  • Flexible schedule and willingness to work school hours as well as some weekends/evenings for parent/teacher conferences and school or agency events.
  • Experience in working with low-income families and communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will oversee and manage a program of 35 students to provide assessment, service planning, case management, and/or intervention work within the school setting.
  • Provide coaching to each student regularly (minimum of once per month) to develop a service plan and set goals relative to school attendance, educational and career counseling, college readiness, grade performance, internship participation, housing assistance, and parenting skills training.
  • Responsible for arranging, coordinating, and implementing the initiative's strategies, services, and resources in consultation with the CS Assistant Director and school administration and consistent with the requirements of the NDA grant.
  • Supervise and work closely with Activity Specialists to ensure quality programming, conduct workshops, and provide group training for participants and families.
  • Connect families to community resources, such as job development and food insecurity support.
  • Ensure all attendance and case management information is submitted promptly into appropriate data systems (DYCD CONNECT).
  • Participate in ongoing Professional Development workshops provided by GSS, DYCD & others.
