Job summary

Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago is seeking a Family Coach at our Calumet Center to empower families through collaborative goal setting and supportive coaching. You will apply trauma-informed practices and family-centered approaches to help families achieve stability and growth.

The position requires a High School Diploma, 2+ years of case management experience, and a preferred Bachelor's degree in social work or related field. Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work with the full family in a collaborative and supportive manner to help, motivate, and inspire individual and family goal setting.
• Respect families' expertise to establish trust.
• Identify strengths and help families utilize and build on them.
• Provide trauma-informed coaching and family-centered services.
• Complete intakes, monitor goals, and track progress in HMIS and case files.
• Coordinate region-wide events and activities to meet client needs.

We are now hiring for a full-time Family Coach at our Calumet Center!

SALARY:

• The average starting salary for this position will fall in the range of $44,000 and $49,500 annually. Where candidates fall in this range will be based on skill and experience level.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Works with the full family in a collaborative and supportive manner to help, motivate, and inspire individual and family goal setting while allowing the family to drive the work.
• Have a deep respect for a family’s expertise, which is fundamental to establishing trust.
• Help the family to identify strengths and then work with the families to utilize these strengths and build others.
• Use of trauma informed practices.
• Provides services according to values and principles for family centered coaching.
• Completes the intakes and monitors family goals and activities.
• Completes senior assessments and monitors goals, activities, and referrals.
• Provides follow up to ensure family goals are progressing or achieved.
• While using a family-centered approach, services should focus on addressing the following areas: Foster Economic Independence; Increase Earning Power; Support Academic Achievement; Enhance Stability and Quality of Life.
• Coordinates events and activities within the region to meet client needs and engage individuals, seniors, households in services.
• Addresses housing related issues including lease compliance referrals from Property Management.
• Assists families with meeting site-based requirements and CHA work requirements.
• Provides support services including transportation, childcare assistance, clothing and uniform assistance.
• Records family progress in HMIS and case files.
• Handles emergency and crisis situations with residents.
• Works within contract, grant, and program requirements including meeting timelines and reporting requirements.
• Utilizes a team approach and works with other program staff in the planning and implementation of services.
• Takes increasing responsibility for own professional development, utilizing supervision and other developmental opportunities within and outside the agency to enhance skills and understanding.
• Works effectively with diverse staff and service populations. Accountable for providing exception customer service.
• Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

• Demonstrated ability to render adequate service to clients and to organize and manage job efficiently.
• Requires mobility to work with community-based caseload.
• Ability to maintain assigned community and home-based services.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
• Must be highly organized and knowledge of Excel to track data.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• 2+ years' experience in case management, which includes the coordination of services and housing needs, required.
• Bachelor's degree in social work or related field from an accredited college or university, preferred.
• Bilingual preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS:

• Satisfactorily pass all relevant screenings and criminal background checks.

TRANSPORTATION/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Driving for work required with a personally owned vehicle. Travel between sites required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and viewing a computer terminal.
