Job summary

The role requires staying awake during overnight hours, enforcing policies, and maintaining a safe environment while assisting guests, handling daily shelter operations, and coordinating with staff.

Qualifications

• Compassionate, servant-hearted individual aligned with the Christian mission.
• Dependable, team-oriented, and capable of handling shift duties.
• Ability to stay calm, professional, and compassionate under pressure.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Willingness to complete CPR, First Aid, naloxone administration, trauma-informed care, and de-escalation training.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; no shelter experience required.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist guests while maintaining a safe, respectful, and structured environment.
• Enforce UGM policies, procedures, and shelter expectations.
• Monitor facility activities and conduct routine safety checks.
• Assist with guest needs, shelter operations, laundry, cleaning, and general facility tasks.
• Respond to conflicts, emergencies, and challenging situations with good judgment.
• Maintain incident records and communicate important information to staff and leadership.
• Collaborate with team to provide care and support to guests.
• Remain awake and attentive during the overnight shift.
• Attend required staff and shelter meetings.

Family Center Support Staff - Overnight

Union Gospel Mission Sioux Falls is seeking compassionate, dependable individuals to join our Family Center overnight team. As a Christ-centered ministry serving women and families experiencing homelessness and other life challenges, we are looking for team members who have a servant's heart, strong communication skills, and a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Our Family Center provides a safe and supportive environment where women and families can find shelter, encouragement, and hope through the love of Jesus Christ.

Primary Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist guests while maintaining a safe, respectful, and structured environment.
• Communicate and consistently enforce UGM policies, procedures, and shelter expectations.
• Monitor facility activities, conduct routine safety checks, and help maintain the security of guests, staff, and visitors.
• Assist with guest needs, daily shelter operations, laundry, cleaning, and general facility responsibilities.
