Objective And Position Summary

The Family Assistance Program Specialist is responsible for providing general emergency assistance that includes, utility, rental, funeral and general resource navigation assistance to low-income households throughout the state of Arizona. This role also involves the support of community outreach events, engagement with youth and families to meet program goals, support workshop/events assisting eligible individuals in accessing state resources and/or other services and ensuring that applicants receive accurate guidance throughout the application process. Key responsibilities include maintaining a thorough understanding of program eligibility requirements, application procedures, and relevant policy issues. The specialist should also stay informed about additional community resources available to those in need. Ideal candidate will support the project lead in implementing grant deliverables and participate in youth, individual and family programming that support contract/grant goals.

Primary Duties And Essential Functions

  • Work with individuals/families that are in crisis
  • Assist individuals/families navigate general emergency assistance, utility, rental, funeral, etc.
  • Participate in community outreach events
  • Answering phone calls
  • Providing general support in the office or assigned community/recreation centers
  • Monitor office supply inventory, compile Amazon supply list for ordering and ensure printer levels are adequate
  • Ability to work on individual tasks and to work as part of a team with shared goals
  • Maintain a record of services being provided, this includes but not limited: data on unduplicated number of clients, type of information/resources being provided
  • Ability to locate potential outreach “tabling” opportunities for in-person events and pre-screenings
  • Seek out any potential community contacts or networking opportunities for program outreach
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications And Competencies

Education /Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least two (2) years of experience working with low-income population preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, customer service and organizational skills are necessary
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization, and partner organizations
  • Ability to foster diversity and open communication within teams and programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a high performing team
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software, and web-based computer programs
  • Successful co-facilitation experience preferred
  • Reliable transportation
  • Able to attend outreach events to grant service areas as planned
