Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Family and Criminal Attorney role located in Birmingham, AL. The attorney will manage a caseload involving family law matters (such as divorce, child custody, child support, and protection orders) and criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to felonies. Day-to-day responsibilities include meeting with clients, assessing legal issues, performing legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, preparing discovery, and providing clear legal advice. The role also involves negotiating settlements and plea agreements, appearing in court for hearings and trials, and collaborating with colleagues and support staff to ensure effective case management. The attorney will maintain detailed case files, adhere to ethical and professional standards, and contribute to the firm's reputation for high-quality advocacy.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Law with specific experience or interest in Family and Criminal Law, including Labor and Employment Law where relevant to client matters.
• Ability to provide thorough and practical Legal Advice, supported by careful case assessment and client counseling.
• Proficiency in Legal Research to analyze statutes, case law, rules of procedure, and evidentiary standards.
• Effective Negotiation skills for settlements, plea agreements, and dispute resolution in both family and criminal contexts.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Alabama (or eligibility for admission).
• Prior experience handling family and/or criminal cases preferred, including courtroom advocacy and motion practice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong drafting abilities for pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
• High level of professionalism, ethical judgment, and ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to client service, including empathy, discretion, and respect for clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff and to maintain organized, accurate case files and documentation.
