Job summary

Chess Wizards is seeking enthusiastic instructors in Walnut Creek, CA to lead after-school chess lessons for elementary students. The role offers flexible weekday afternoons, with sessions typically from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and a requirement to travel between local school sites.

You will use our curriculum to teach chess fundamentals, promote sportsmanship, and create a fun, engaging classroom environment while serving as a positive role model.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children in educational, recreational, or mentoring settings.
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, fun sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Genuine desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain moves, basics, and tactics to kids.
• Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life situations.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability on weekday afternoons (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes per week.
• Commitment to school safety protocols and supervising students as needed.
• Strong punctuality and time-management skills
