Job summary

Chess Wizards in Vallejo, CA is seeking enthusiastic, reliable instructors to lead after-school chess classes for elementary students. You will use a structured curriculum, foster a fun learning environment, and travel to local school sites as needed.

Schedule is Monday–Friday 12pm–6pm with 1–5 classes per week; pay is $55–$75 per class plus mileage reimbursement for trips over 15 miles. Full training and materials provided; relocation not offered.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, friendly, and fun sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain moves, basic strategy, and simple tactics to kids.
• Reliable transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability on weekday afternoons (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) to teach 1–5 classes per week.
• Commitment to school safety protocols and to being a positive role model.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Use structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and promote sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
