Job summary

Portland Public Schools seeks a Long Term Substitute Social Worker to support students at Reiche Community School (Pre-K–5). This temporary 1.0 FTE position runs approximately Sept 22, 2026 through Nov 18, 2026, with a wage of $37.25 per hour and benefits eligibility.

The social worker will collaborate with school and district colleagues to provide trauma-informed, PBIS-aligned services, crisis intervention, referrals, and supports to students and families to promote academic success and

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Maine standards and trauma-informed practices.
• Knowledge of social work principles and PBIS.
• Ability to collaborate with a diverse social work and teaching staff.
• Preference shown for bilingual proficiency in Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese.

Responsibilities

• Participates in school-based teams involving collaboration with other school personnel and community agencies.
• Consults and coordinates child welfare and safety referrals and provides follow-up case-management.
• Provides crisis intervention and appropriate referrals and follow-up.
• Makes referrals to public or private agencies with appropriate follow-up.
• Serves as a liaison between school, family and community resources; provides information about community resources.
• Collaborates with families to strengthen home-school communication to reduce barriers to participation in education.
