Job summary

Amtrak in Philadelphia is offering Fall 2026/Spring 2027 Host Railroads Internships in the Host Railroads Group. The role focuses on operations analysis, contract administration, and negotiating positions with host railroads.

You will conduct data research, maintain databases, help design performance reports, and communicate with management while gaining exposure to transportation contracting and industry practice.

Qualifications

• Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
• Must be pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in economics, business, or other quantitative disciplines.
• Must have at least 2 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a junior status at minimum.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Strong quantitative research and analysis skills.
• Strong business sense.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.

Position Summary

This is an internship in Amtrak’s Host Railroads Group, which is responsible for the negotiation of contractual and other arrangements with the railroads that own track on which Amtrak trains operate (“host railroads”), and for ensuring that host railroads provide service that meets Amtrak’s expectations. The intern will execute several projects related to operations analysis and contract administration, including a mix of quantitative analysis, auditing/archiving of Amtrak systems and records relative to agreements in place with host railroads, and interpretation of contract language. The intern will also support development of negotiating positions for current or future Amtrak negotiations with host railroads.

Minimum Qualifications

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

The hourly range is $18.00 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
