Responsibilities

The Registered Professional Nurse at Northside Hospital independently plans and provides professional nursing care to patients following physician orders and established guidelines, within the scope of practice as defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act. According to the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 3rd Edition (2015), nursing involves the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through diagnosis and treatment of human responses, and advocacy for individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. The scope of practice and standards depend on the nurse's education, experience, role, and the population served. At Northside Hospital, professional nursing practice aligns with ANA's standards across various domains including clinical knowledge, professional practice, leadership, professional development, and evidence-based practice, quality, and research. Staff Registered Nurses progress sequentially from novice to expert, with job descriptions for levels RN I through RN VI reflecting increasing knowledge, skills, competencies, and critical thinking abilities.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, License, or Certification Required

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school and licensed as an RN in Georgia in good standing without limitations.
  • Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Additional life support certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, or other clinical specialty certifications relevant to specific units.
  • Visual color acuity, depending on the role and specific unit requirements.
