Med-Surgery - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (25001620)
The Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is inviting applications for a faculty position with the Surgical Oncology Division at the rank of Professor with tenure. The assigned faculty will provide patient care and assist with surgical procedures. They will participate in clinical research and teach medical residents and fellows. The assigned faculty will also be involved with divisional initiatives and training.
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include a medical degree, completion of an accredited general surgery residency training program, and eligibility for licensure in Pennsylvania. Applicants should be board-certified with significant interest and ability in clinical care and teaching. Candidates should possess strong clinical, interpersonal, analytical, and leadership skills.

Professor with Tenure - The primary requirement for tenure is an outstanding record of sustained independent scholarship. Scholarship is the systematic and progressive accumulation of knowledge, which leads to competent mastery of an academic study and the acquisition of the minutiae of knowledge in that special field. As defined by Weiser, scholarship is creative intellectual work that is validated by peers and communicated. All candidates for tenure in the School of Medicine should have demonstrated significant accomplishment in scholarly endeavors, which in most but not all instances, is synonymous with accretion of knowledge using laboratory, clinical, and other research tools.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the tenured faculty are effective teaching and scholarship throughout their careers, which advance their fields of learning. Those who accept the rights and privileges of a tenured appointment owe it to their colleagues to defend independence and freedom of mind in their field of competence. The qualified physician will be actively involved in patient care and medical student, resident, and fellow teaching in the area of surgery.
