UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, celebrating its 41st year as a leading center for cancer research, is recruiting translational science faculty at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to join and lead established programs within the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at the University of Pittsburgh.
The candidates will lead and/or participate in Head and Neck Oncology; Malignant Hematology (Myeloma, Leukemia, and Lymphoma); Breast Oncology; Sarcoma; GU Oncology; GI Oncology; and Phase I and Experimental Therapeutics in the Division of Hematology-Oncology and the UPMC Cancer Center. The incumbent will have a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and will be a member of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Qualified applicants must have an MD and will be BC/BE physicians, physician scientists, and established investigators. Strong emphasis on leadership, communication, and a track record of publications in high-impact journals, with experience in cutting-edge clinical and translational research and NIH or other peer-reviewed funding. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead and/or participate in clinical and translational research within the Division of Hematology-Oncology and the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
- Maintain a primary appointment in the Department of Medicine, UPSOM, and be an active member of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
- Collaborate with clinical, translational, and population scientists; participate in grant writing and dissemination of results via peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
- Engage in program leadership and contribute to the development of established programs in specified disease areas (Head and Neck Oncology; Malignant Hematology; Breast Oncology; Sarcoma; GU Oncology; GI Oncology; Phase I/Experimental Therapeutics).
- Demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding and maintain ongoing research programs.
- Commit to teaching and mentorship with significant experience as reflected by prior teaching roles.
Qualifications
- MD and/or PhD (or equivalent); board certification/eligibility (BC/BE) in relevant specialties.
- Proven leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and a record of publications in high-impact journals.
- Strong history of NIH or other peer-reviewed funding and experience in clinical and translational research.
- Preferential consideration for candidates from NCI-designated cancer centers with scientific programs or relevant leadership experience.
- Assistant Professor: three or more years of related scientific research experience; ability to obtain external funding; peer-reviewed publications; significant teaching experience; potential for sustained career development, promotion, and tenure.
- Associate Professor: five or more years of related research experience; independent external funding; substantial peer-reviewed publications; significant teaching experience; potential for sustained leadership and independent scholarly contributions.
- Professor (non-tenure or tenure-stream): five to seven years as Associate Professor; distinguished scholarship, leadership in professional activities, and proven teaching ability.
